1. Origins of the game
Dragon Tiger is a tile-based game that is believed to have originated in Vietnam. The game is thought to have been introduced to gambling casinos in the 1990s.2. How to play the game
The game can be played with either one or two decks of cards. With one deck, 52 cards are used and players draw from a single stack. With two decks, 104 cards are used and players draw from two separate stacks. To begin the game, each player is dealt four cards face down. The remainder of the cards are placed face down in the middle of the table to form a stock pile. The player with the highest card starts and play passes clockwise around the table. On their turn, a player must either draw one card from the stock pile or exchange up to three cards from their hand with those from the stock pile. When drawing a card from the stock pile, if any other players have cards of the same rank as the card drawn, they must show their cards and these two players then battle it out using the following rules
– The player with the higher rank wins and takes both cards
– If both players have matching ranks, then both players lose (this is called “sudden death”)
– If one player has a rank that is higher than their opponent’s rank, but lower than both of their opponent’s suits (e.g., Ace beats 2 but loses to King), then that player loses (this is also known as “Going Bust”)
After all players have exchanged cards or drawn new ones from the stock pile, play passes to the left and continues as normal. The aim is to collect as many pairs of dragon/tiger tiles as possible in order to make winning combinations. The first player to run out of cards automatically loses the game.
